Pre-lim task 1 evaluation

On completion of the pre-lim task and looking at the short film me and my group made as well as looking at the feedback that we received from our peers I think overall that although our group had a well built and structured storyline enhanced by the use of costume and variation of voice, we failed to use a variety of camera shots and editing techniques as we originally planned.

However the main problem we had could also be seen as the best feature of our short movie. That being our constant use of shot/ reverse shot to display the conversation between the detective and the snitch. Although this use of shot/ reverse shot is a good editing technique to use when showing a two people talking to each other and in that case was very appropiate to our short movie, at times it was as if we we're overloading it with shot/ reverse shot and not using any other editing techniques or in fact camera shots to display this conversation which was a issue brought up in the feedback we got.

But it was our well written script (written by me and Laurence) that was said to be the best feature of our short movie, with the script and also use of costume and good acting helping to enhance the story and therefore creating a engaging piece.

This use of limited shot types and editing techniques as well as the camera at times being jittery and unstable made the film look at times very amatuerish and unproffesional. A problem that could of maybe been solved by the use of a tripod to help steady the camera and also a better camera to film with as a flip camera did not have all the functions neeeded to film a high quality piece. However this was a problem experienced by all groups and perhaps expresses our limited expriences of filming as we have only just begun the course.

This although is a problem that will get better with times as we continue to constantly improve on the course and in my case is certainly going to motivate me to do better and improve my standard which will only be done by hard work and focus.

Pre-lim task

For the pre-lim tasked i have been asked to create a short film with the basis of the film being about a meeting between two individuals.
For this task it is of the utmost importance that I try and show a variety of camera shots and angles, as well as making sure that I use good and appropriate editing techniques in order to show fluidity in my short film.
In addition, for this to all work it is important that I create a good script, location and characterise the characters in the short film well so the meaning, story and overall message is made obvious and effective to anyone watching.

My idea for my film was to show a meeeting between a detective and a 'snitch', with the snitch giving the detective information about a notorious criminal inspired by detective program 'Luther' which i based mine on because it uses a wide variety of camera shots and unconventional portrayal of the detective. Me and my group chose to do this as we thought that we could use a variety of shots and editing techniques to show the big difference in status and power between the two individuals which we hoped would be made apparent in our short film.

Introduction

My name is Jassiem Moore and I am a student at the LaSWAP consortium currently studying A2 media.  As part of my course this year I have been asked in the brief to create a film marketing campaign which specializes in the genre of horror. This blog will be used to show evidence, planning and research of all tasks.

My blog will consist of up to date evaluations of the work I have done so far with the goal of showing my progress from now to the end of the course, different promotional advertisements of my film which will include a poster and a film trailer. As well as showcasing different and interesting ways of uploading and showing information on my blog.

This therefore differs greatly to my AS coursework in the following ways:

  • Instead of working individually all work will now be group based
  • I will now be using video based media and not only print based
  • The content of the brief is much wider than it was at AS
